Our Beary Good Kid
for the Month of July

Wendy Lynn Sledge wrote this about her daughter Keiko:

Keiko is on the Salinas Youth Council. She loves the council because it gives her an organized opportunity to do what she has always done: give to charities.

This is a picture of Keiko when she was putting essential bags together with the council. They did a Salinas school wide collection of toiletry items to be distributed at a homeless shelter.

Part of the role the Salinas Youth Council plays is to recommend activities for the youth of Salinas to the Salinas City Council. The Youth Council put together the Teen Talent Extravaganza, Battle of the Bands.

Keiko is in a band with her sisters named The Sledge G.R.I.T.S. Band (standing for Girls Raised In The South - we are from Florida). They perform all over the area. She is also a member of the Blues Honors Band and performed at the Monterey Blues Festival in June. You can visit The Sledge G.R.I.T.S. Band website at www.gritsworld.com.

She has raised money selling breast cancer awareness items and gave the money to the awareness cause and made sandwiches for Dorothy's Kitchen. She is an honest, giving girl who is always looking for ways to give to the community. She is a good kid who is excited about the positive things in life.

local kid who has displayed an act of kindness.
