Congratulations to:

Veronica Moore

Our Beary Good Kid
for the Month of June

Eva Moore wrote this about her daughter Veronica:

Veronica wanted to do something nice for the Earth this past Earth Day. I had read the CSUMB group, Return of the Natives, needed volunteers at Natividad Creek Park to see if we could help.

We helped "flag" native plants among a sea of weeds. Flagging the plants would let us know we needed to pull the weeds around the plant. Once all native plants were identified, we needed to pull the weeds, using a shovel or hoe. Veronica tried both tools, but it proved to be too much of a job for an 8 year old. I attempted to convince her that we at least tried, and suggested we go home.

She insisted on staying at the park, and since she couldn't help with saving the native plants, she would go and pick up trash instead. So we armed ourselves with a garbage bad and gloves and proceeded to pick up trash. Can wrappers, bottle caps, popsicle sticks and soda cans were among the many things we picked up. She was amazed at how much trash we picked up. Later that night, Veronica said, "I wish every day was Earth Day."
