Kim wrote this of her daughter, Kayla:
It can become very difficult teaching your children when it is a good time to talk to strangers and when it is a bad time to talk to strangers.
One day, Kayla and I were on our way to the local 7-11 for a Slurpe because of the good day she had a school.
When we pulled up to the store there was an elderly lady sitting on a plastic milk crate with all her personal belongings in a plastic bag. Kayla asked, "Why is the lady was sitting outside the store?" I told her the lady probably lost her job and her home and has no place to go.
We then walked into the store to get our slurpe's. I gave Kayla $5.00 to pay for three Slurpes and we walked out. I got in the car, and I told Kayla to keep the change and put it in her bank when we get home. She said, "Can I give it to that lady"? I said, "sure." We both got back out of the car, and Kayla walked up to the lady and gave her the change from our Slurpe purchase ($1.63).
I praised her for doing such a great deed, and making this lady's day a happy one.
I was so proud of her...to think that she gave up her money to help someone else. |
